Now the Department of Education is amping up those efforts by launching its own ‘Edtech Developer’s Tour’--a series of 18 events designed to spur collaboration among entrepreneurs, developers, educators, funders, and students and more."
Washington D.C. - Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce released a study last week that shows that students who major in health, STEM — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — and business fields end up with higher average annual wages at the entry level and over the course of a person’s career. The lowest-paying majors were in the arts, liberal arts and humanities. The study used United States Census data to examine the wages for 137 college majors to identify the most economically beneficial undergraduate areas of study.
Lakewood, NJ - According to Michael Diamond, "Faced with a shortage of workers with science and math skills, New Jersey should embrace policies that make it easier for women and immigrants to thrive in the workplace, the leader of the state's technology trade group said Friday."

Trenton, NJ - Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta) announces that it will be furthering its efforts to promote environmental and STEM education by making an $115,000 donation to the Thielke Arboretum Environmental Education Center.
Hoboken, NJ - A new STEM program will be available to youngsters enrolled in 10 New Jersey Boys & Girls Clubs, through $82,461 in funding contributed by Walmart. Stevens Institute of Technology’s Center for Innovation in Engineering & Science Education (CIESE) is a partner in the initiative, which is known as WaterBotics®.
Newark, NJ - According to Verizon New Jersey Community Update, "Students at Dr. E. Alma Flagg and George Washington Carver schools in Newark are exploring the exciting world of STEM education with support from Verizon. Each has been awarded a $20,000 Verizon Innovate Learning Grant. They are two of 80 public schools across the country to receive a grant this year as part of Verizon’s investment to help provide teachers with the resources they need to use technology more innovatively and effectively to engage students in science, technology, engineering and math."
New Brunswick, NJ - According to Verizon New Jersey Community Update, "Of all the energy displayed at a recent STEM Day at Rutgers University’s School of Engineering, “kid power” was by far the most impressive. At the day-long event, about 60 students from New Brunswick Middle School built, powered and raced several cars or other moving objects, with the help of Rutgers students and Verizon employees. While the New Brunswick students learned about engineering, the Rutgers students learned about internship and employment opportunities at Verizon."
Washington D.C. - According to a new report by the National Science Board (NSB), in 2010, 16.5 million individuals indicated that their job required at least a bachelor's degree level in a STEM field. The 2014 report titled, Revisiting the STEM Workforce explains there are many positions that require STEM that have traditional thought of as STEM jobs such as sales, marketing, and management. The NSB is the policymaking body for the National Science Foundation and has made several recommendations to strengthen the U.S. stem workforce.

Pittsburgh, PA - ASSET STEM Education announced a third round of its STEM Scholarship Program. The program, launched in August 2014 in honor of ASSET’s 20th anniversary, provides hands-on STEM classroom materials and educator professional development to underfunded schools and educational organizations to advance student success and workforce readiness.
Trenton, NJ – Earlier this month, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno continued her recognition of National Volunteerism Month by addressing the participants of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation’s 17th Annual Multicultural Teen Corporate Mentoring Program. The week-long program engages students in a behind-the-scenes look at working in a corporate setting and provides approximately 32 volunteer hours for students.
Trenton, NJ – In a press conference this week, the New Jersey Senate Republican leadership released a 36 bill package to improve the state of innovation, the strengthen the workforce and grow the economy. The bills seek to usher in growth through policies pertaining to science and technology, STEM education, improving the state’s existing economic development practices, regulation reductions as well as agriculture enhancements without adding additional costs to the budget.
