Morristown Medical Center, a part of Atlantic Health System, has launched the Center for Nursing Innovation, an internal incubator in which the hospital’s nearly 1,600 nurses can develop ideas for new medical products.
Much of the funding for the center is coming from fundraising events from the Women’s Association for Morristown Medical Center.
“By proactively seeking solutions to today’s health care challenges, our nurses will be on the forefront of change,” said Kowalski. “The CNIR will pave the way for Morristown Medical Center nurses to be viewed as national leaders, as they disseminate new knowledge and best practices generated at the center.”
Kowalski said that the center is already conducting a pilot study on a new, proprietary skin treatment system that takes photographs of patients’ skin over time to help medical staff better assess skin conditions.
“It’s really for skin wounds and [bed sores],” she said. “I don’t know if this will go to market yet. We have developed a prototype and it’s developing right now.”
