Legislative Update: Permitting Intrastate Crowdfunding Heads to Governor’s Desk

Trenton, NJ – Legislation that would change New Jersey laws and regulations to help businesses take advantage of crowdfunding passed the Senate last Thursday. Specifically, S-712/A-2073 would provide exemptions from registration with the NJ Bureau of Securities for companies that want to offer intrastate crowdfunding investment opportunities. The total investment cannot exceed $1 million, and the investment from any single purchaser is capped at $5,000.

Educated Workforce Helps Attract Scientist-Turned-Entrepreneur in NJ

Trenton, NJ - The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA) continues its series highlighting how entrepreneurs and investors are helping to build New Jersey’s technology ecosystem: In 1999, scientist-turned-entrepreneur Navneet Puri earned his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Rutgers University and went on to found InnoPharma, Inc. in Piscataway just a few years later. The research and development pharmaceutical company, focused on developing complex generic and innovative specialty products in injectable and ophthalmic dosage forms,   was ultimately acquired by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer last year. Under Puri’s leadership, InnoPharma had more than 30 products in various stages of development, including 10 generic products that had received Food and Drug Administration approval.

Stockton University Announces Plans for Major Facilities Expansion

Trenton, NJ - According to Andrew Sheldon of NJBiz, "NJ 2-1-1 Partnership has received a grant of new DF15 H03 servers from the IBM Corporation. These servers will allow the partnership to consolidate applications from old servers onto virtual servers and help NJ 2-1-1 continue to provide valuable services for people in search of health and human service needs in New Jersey."

Celgene Announces Agreement to Purchase NJ Research and Office Facility

Summit, NJ - Celgene Corporation announced that it has entered into an agreement to purchase the Merck & Co., Inc.  research and office facility located at 556 Morris Avenue in Summit, New Jersey.  Pending the completion of due diligence, closing is planned for September.  Financial terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.
