New Brunswick, NJ - The HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ) has appointed Edward F. Tate III as its director of communications.  Tate will be responsible for the full array of communications activities, including member communications, media relations, social media and the HINJ website. Tate is well-known to HINJ, having worked with the organization while he was Director of Communications in Rutgers University’s Office of Research and Economic Development from 2011-17, where he established and managed the communications function.
“We collaborated frequently with Ed during his tenure at Rutgers, a valued HINJ partner, so we knew he would be an excellent addition to our team,” said Dean J. Paranicas, HINJ’s President and Chief Executive Officer.  “Ed’s extensive experience as a journalist and more than two decades as a communicator in the commercial sector and higher education make him well-suited to serve our members and promote New Jersey’s life sciences in a challenging communications environment.”
For the past year, Tate was Director of Communications and Strategic Planning for the Central Bucks School District in Bucks County, Pa.  He is a member of the Board of School Directors of the Council Rock School District, which also is in Bucks County, and served as President of the Board in 2017.
Prior to his Rutgers role, Tate was a broadcast and print reporter in Central Pennsylvania for more than a decade before joining the University of Illinois at Chicago public affairs staff for another 10 years.  He thereafter served as Director of Media Relations and later Executive Director of Communications for Educational Testing Service in Princeton.  Subsequently, he became Executive Vice President of a Philadelphia-area public relations firm focused on the chemical and health care industries.  Tate also was an independent consultant in corporate communications.
Tate has a master’s degree in integrated marketing communications from West Virginia University and a bachelor’s in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
