The bill, A2477, also includes provisions for physician notification when a biosimilar bill is substituted for a biologic drug.

The bill would , which will help spur investment in small biotech companies and other early-stage companies to help accelerate the development of treatments and cures. The Start-up Jobs and Innovation Act would address the unique obstacles faced by not-yet profitable research-intensive small businesses.

Trenton, NJ, December 15, 2014 – The New Jersey Senate Labor Committee advanced legislation sponsored by Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean to create a post-doctoral fellowship program that will enhance cutting-edge industrial research and development in New Jersey. The NJ Innovation and Research Fellowship, bill S-2442, will take 3% of the Workforce Development Partnership Fund reserved for Customized training, currently being underutilized.
The new program would have Department of Labor and the Economic Development of Authority to create at least 20 R&D fellowships that will last 2 to 3 years each. The money must be used to help train people in information technology and 8 fellowships must go to employers with less than 25 employees and 8 must go to employers with 25 or more employees. “This bill will help make New Jersey a beacon for innovation, technological ingenuity and development opportunities,” Kean said. “It will create greater opportunities for the workforce, develop this state’s future workforce pipeline and open new avenues for success with a top-notch innovation network. New Jersey needs all of these things to be a true economic force.” S-2442 is among several “Fostering Innovation” bills announced by Senator Kean during a recent tour of one of New Jersey’s key innovation engines, Bell Labs.
