Newark, NJ - The flights, conducted by researchers from NJIT’s Crisis Communication Center and NJII’s Homeland Security and Defense Innovation Lab and their partners in late January, were historic for the State of New Jersey. The university and its partners are the first to conduct unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) flights in the state under a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) program to test the feasibility of safely integrating drones into national airspace and to assess the research and operational capabilities of communications and mapping sensors aboard the craft.

The program is at the intersection of medicine and biology, with the focus on the improvement of heath care systems and is modeled after the proven hands-on, real-world, project-based curriculum of Rowan’s existing engineering programs.
Rowan University also named Dr. Mark Byrne as professor and inaugural chairman of the new department. New Brunswick, NJ, December 1, 2014 – The Rutgers Graduate School of Biomedical Science is now offering a new degree and concentration in clinical and translational science research. Computational Imaging and Biopharmaceutical Sciences (CIBS) concentration will now be offered the within the Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Science Program.
The CIBS concentration is designed for students wishing to specialize in computer generated image reconstruction for understanding visualization of normal and diseased organ function and accurate localization of tumors in organs. Emphasis is placed on understanding aspects of clinical research including drug development, biology of disease and functional imaging coupled with structural aspects obtained from computer generated image reconstruction to arrive at the final reconstructed 3D image. The purpose of functional and structural image reconstruction is to provide health care providers with an accurate location for treatment as well as for monitoring therapeutic outcome. The CIBS concentration will utilize expertise of faculty at GSBS, RU and the Biopharmaceutical industry. In addition to courses offered in the MSCTS program, students will learn several imaging modalities used in medical imaging and the algorithms used for accurate image reconstruction in courses offered by the Computer Science Department at RU. State of the art instrumentation and image reconstruction methods will be taught with students also learning the biology and science behind many of the imaging techniques used in clinical practice.
