Trenton, NJ - Governor Christie signed another balanced budget for FY16 that invests in education and higher education academic institutions.
Montclair, NJ. –David Rotella, the Montclair State University Sokol Professor of Chemistry and a former research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry, has been awarded a $2.5 million, five-year grant from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) to help develop inhibitors of the botulinum toxin, which causes botulism, a life-threatening illness characterized by paralysis and respiratory failure. Rotella is working with government agencies, pharmaceutical companies and other scientists to help the United States combat this serious threat in the war on bioterrorism.
Montclair, NJ - Linguistics Professor Anna Feldman’s work in natural language processing provides a link between humans and computers. As a researcher, her work will have direct benefits to machine translation, specifically when it comes to translating figurative speech. “If you ever use Google Translate, you know machine translation is still not a fully solved problem,” she says. “While getting the structure and form of the translation is difficult, translating figurative language is back-breaking. First of all, the machine needs to detect figurative language, such as an idiom.”
Montclair, NJ -- Elephantiasis, or lymphatic filariasis, is a parasitic disease infecting more than 120 million people in the tropics. According to the World Health Organization, nearly 40 million of them are disfigured and disabled by the infectious disease. Characterized by elephantine enlarged limbs and thickened skin, lymphatic filariasis is caused by a parasite transmitted to humans by mosquito bites.

Trenton, NJ - According to a recent report by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, public colleges in New Jersey are among the highest graduation rates in the country. The report found more than 70 percent of students that start at public four-year schools will complete it within six years at a New Jersey institution, compared to the 62.85 percent national average.

According to a new report by the Business Insider, New Jersey has several underrated college in America with the New Jersey Institute of Technology at the top. These claims come their PayScale College Salary Report, which ranks colleges and universities based on their graduates’ mid-career earnings.
