Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in New Jersey Releases Annual Report to the Governor and State Legislature

Summit, NJ ― The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in New Jersey (AICUNJ) is pleased to share a link to its annual accountability Report to the Governor and State Legislature that catalogs the contributions of independent higher education to the state and the nation.

Here is the link to AICUNJ’s Report.

In the report’s opening letter, Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., AICUNJ Board Chair and President,  Saint Peter’s University, and John B. Wilson, President and CEO, AICUNJ, write:

“Now more than ever, independent, not-for-profit colleges and universities have a critical role to play in the growth and development of New Jersey.

“The Garden State is home to 14 non-profit institutions of higher education that enroll more than 65,000 students and the vast majority—nearly 80%—are state residents.
“Our schools have a long history of educating thinkers and leaders who make vital contributions to the state. Graduates of AICUNJ schools stay in New Jersey, raise families in New Jersey and influence business, education, medicine, public policy, technology and other important sectors.

“The 50th anniversary of AICUNJ underscores the significance of our public mission. Our commitment to affording New Jersey students access and opportunity to higher education is as strong as ever.

“AICUNJ member institutions gave over $700 million in institutional grant aid to undergraduates,
according to the most recent figures. For many students, these aid packages strongly inform their college choice and in turn, direct the course of their lives.

“At the same time, AICUNJ member institutions are the backbones of their communities and contribute $10.3 billion to the State economy annually. New Jersey’s independent colleges and universities are private employers, hubs for research, centers of innovation and business development, workforce catalysts and community partners.

“Consider the enormous returns AICUNJ member schools produce on a modest investment from the state.  Your continued support is essential to securing the success of students and the growth and prosperity of the State of New Jersey.”
