Princeton, NJ - Princeton, a university expanding its focus and commitment to entrepreneurship, was host to the 2015 Celebrate Princeton Invention on November 12th. The event celebrated the University’s innovative faculty members and students by inviting the broader New Jersey entrepreneurial tech community to view their research. Pablo Debendetti, the University’s Dean of Research, emphasized the importance of education and innovation, stating that, “The education at Princeton including the experiences of technology transfer and entrepreneurship lays the groundwork for the building of future companies and industries and help make the world a better place.”
The event featured eight areas of innovation, including energy, health, and environmental technology. Showcased were techniques to assess the life of a battery developed by Professor Daniel Steingart and a hardware system that protects against cyberattacks presented by Ruby Lee, Professor of Electrical Engineering.
Andreas Dios, founder of Cardful, a startup dedicated to assisting small-label fashion companies, appreciated the assistance he received from the University: “I’m involved in the Princeton Entrepreneurship Club and take entrepreneurship classes here. I have learned a lot through my experiences both in the classroom and outside the classroom,” he explained.
John Ritter, Director of the Office of Technology and Licensing, offered encouragement to those presenting that evening and spoke about the opening of the Princeton Entrepreneurial Hub, in addition to the University’s IP Accelerator Fund: “It is truly an exciting time for innovators and entrepreneurs here at Princeton. There are numerous initiatives underway to support your endeavors.”
The IP Accelerator awards its recipients with a small amount of seed capital that can help move research and innovation along. When speaking of the fund, Ritter elaborated on its benefits: “It can greatly assist Princeton researcher efforts to bridge the so called ‘Valley of Death’ between early stage basic research and viable technologies.”
The eHub, or Entrepreneurial Hub, on campus is an incubator space for students and faculty members to further develop their ventures. It also serves as a place for learning opportunities as it is the site of networking events and workshops.
