Camden, NJ ― Anjalee Khemlani reports in NJBIZ that Paul Katz, the founding dean of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, is leaving to be the new president of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

The University of the Sciences board of trustees named Dr. Katz the college’s 25th president.  He will begin on September 1, 2016.

“Over the course of more than 40 years in health care and higher education, Dr. Paul Katz has gained invaluable experience and has demonstrated skilled and visionary leadership, which will be a tremendous benefit to University of the Sciences,” said board Chair Marvin Samson.

“His understanding of the rapidly changing arenas of both health care and higher education, and his belief and experience in interdisciplinary health care delivery, make him uniquely qualified to help shape USciences’ future,” Samson added.

Dr. Katz was the founding dean of the Cooper-Rowan school in 2010 and recently saw the fruits of his labor with the first graduating class last month.
Prior to coming to South Jersey, Katz was a founding vice dean for faculty and clinical affairs and professor of medicine at The Commonwealth Medical college in Scranton, Pennsylvania, which enrolled its first class in 2009.

Dr. Katzh has also previously worked in leadership roles at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Georgetown University Hospital and Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

“USciences has a long and proud history of preparing students to become leaders, innovators and skilled practitioners in the sciences, the health professions and related disciplines,” Katz said.  “I am very excited to help build upon the great legacy of the school and its unique niche. I look forward to the tremendous opportunities that await us.”
