The half-day event will be co-sponsored by HINJ, BioNJ, the New Jersey Rare Disease Alliance and NORD.
The morning will begin at 9:00 a.m. with networking, which will be followed by speakers from the rare disease community, including patients, patient advocates, legislators, biomedical healthcare professionals and life sciences community leaders.
Topics will include addressing the needs of people with rare diseases through legislation and inclusion of the patient voice in the drug-development process.
Legislators expected to attend include Assemblymen Dan Benson (D-Mercer) and Gary Schaer (D-Passaic), and Senators Diane Allen (R-Burlington) and Chris Connors (R-Ocean).
In addition, a member of the New Jersey Legislature will present a ceremonial resolution commemorating Rare Disease Day 2017 in New Jersey.
Following the presentations, patient advocates will walk to the State House to meet with legislators.
