Washington, DC — The third Healthcare Businesswomen's Association Women’s Healthcare Innovation and Leadership Showcase (WHILS) will take place on Wednesday, June 14 at Rutgers University.

WHILS 2017 will be held at Rutgers University, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in the Kessler Teaching Building, 675 Hoes Lane West in Piscataway, New Jersey.

The conference is supported by a founding in-kind sponsorship from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and a gold sponsorship from the Rutgers University Interdisciplinary Job Opportunities in Biomedical Sciences (iJOBS) program.

“As the premier professional organization supporting women’s leadership in the business of healthcare for nearly 40 years, the HBA is uniquely equipped to help connect and align influencers in women’s healthcare,” said 2017 HBA NY/NJ regional conference director Heather Van Ness, of Van Ness Communications.
“We are looking forward to expanding the work of WHILS this year in collaboration with Rutgers and other strategic partners,” Van Ness added.

“Underrepresentation of female subjects in research contributes to our under-developed understanding of the impact of gender differences in health experiences and outcomes,” said Christopher J. Molloy, senior vice president for research and economic development at Rutgers University.

“We are delighted to be able to extend Rutgers’ research in women’s studies, leadership and healthcare by hosting the 2017 Women’s Healthcare Innovation and Leadership Showcase this June,” Molloy said.

“WHILS is of interest to the Rutgers iJOBS Program,” said Assistant Dean, Graduate School of Biolomedical Sciences and iJOBS program director, Janet Alder PhD, “as it offers a rare opportunity for biomedical PhD students and postdoctoral fellows to engage with a broad range of pharmaceutical and clinical professionals as they examine the intersecting factors that impact individual and population health and discuss how research can be translated into practical measures to improve conditions and outcomes for all.”

About the Women’s Healthcare Innovation and Leadership Showcase (WHILS)

WHILS is a biennial signature conference presented by the HBA NY/NJ region. This event gathers expert stakeholders from across the spectrum of healthcare to discuss challenges, share scientific and practical learnings and spotlight opportunities for innovation and change in women’s healthcare.

The program considers four strategic pillars for impacting change:

  • Basic and Clinical Research
  • Medical Practice
  • Health Literacy
  • Access to care.

WHILS 2017 will be a half-day afternoon/evening conference running from approximately noon to 6:30 PM. It will include a panel discussion, breakout sessions, posters, curated exhibits and a closing networking reception.
