Trenton, NJ — Adam Clark reports in The Star-Ledger/NJ.com that Gov. Chris Christie's final budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2018 doesn't do any favors for New Jersey’s public colleges and universities.
Each of the 10 traditional four-year colleges and Thomas Edison State University would see flat funding, sharing about $700 million in state aid.
Unlike New Jersey's K-12 school funding, there's no special formula that determines how much each college gets.
State funding for colleges is based largely on how much schools have received in the past, regardless of enrollment growth or other changes on campus.
