The new Center for Environmental and Life Sciences sits atop a bluff on the campus and features a stunning view of Manhattan. The five-story building comprises 107,500-square-feet and will expand Montclair State’s science research infrastructure by at least 40 percent, the school said. The university has about 3,000 students enrolled in its science programs, President Susan A. Cole said.
Robert S. Prezant, dean of the college of science and mathematics, said the university will conduct cutting-edge research in such areas as climate change and pharmaceuticals, which are such a big part of New Jersey’s economy. The university will also ramp up collaborations with industry, he said.
Robert Hariri, chairman, founder and chief scientific officer for Celgene Cellular Therapeutics, also took part in the ceremonial ribbon cutting with Kelly and school officials. Hariri pioneered the use of stem cells to treat a range of life-threatening diseases, according to a press release from the school.”"
