NIH LabTV Profiles 10 Young Rutgers University Researchers

New Brunswick, NJ ― A new NIH LabTV series, The Human Faces of Medical Research, has profiled Rutgers young researchers.
 
The LabTV Rutgers channel features video profiles of professors, graduate students and an undergrad who are working in the laboratories of Lauren Aleksunes, Zhiping Pang, and Anand Sarwate.
 
LabTV Featured Researchers:

  • Lauren Aleksunes, associate professor and graduate program director of the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute and Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy in Rutgers University-New Brunswick, primarily researches Toxicology and is trying to optimize cancer treatments with fewer negative side effects at the Rutgers University Aleksunes Lab.
  • Blessy George, a Pharm.D./Ph.D. candidate in Rutgers’ Joint Graduate Program in Toxicology, primarily researches pharmacology and is trying to detect kidney injuries caused by chemotherapy in cancer patients using novel protein biomarkers at the Rutgers University Aleksunes Lab.
 
  • Xia Wen, research assistant professor of Toxicology in the Rutgers Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, primarily researches Pharmacology and is also trying to determine how genetics and signaling molecules regulate drug transporters at the Rutgers University Aleksunes Lab.
 
  • Heather McGowan, graduate student of the M.D./Ph.D. Program, NRSA F31 Pre-doctoral Fellowship, primarily researches Neuroscience and is trying to create a stem cell model of Down syndrome at the Rutgers University Pang Lab.
 
  • Apoorva Halikere, graduate student of the Ph.D. program in Neuroscience, IGERT Fellow, primarily researches neuroscience and the challenges of substance abuse/addictions, and is trying to find the mechanisms of alcohol addiction by observing how the brain responds to rewards at the Rutgers University Pang Lab.
 
  • Sijie Xiong, graduate research assistant and Ph.D. student of philosophy in the Rutgers School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, primarily researches in biomedical technology and is trying to make health related data more secure at the Rutgers University Anand Sarwate Lab.
 
  • Anand Sarwate, assistant professor in the Rutgers Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, primarily researches biomedical technology and the use of computers to find patterns or similarities in patients with mental health disorders and is trying to design ways for organizations to share private information safely at the Rutgers University Anand Sarwate Lab.
 
  • Hafiz Imtiaz, graduate teaching assistant in the Rutgers Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Rutgers University, primarily researches biomedical technology and is trying to develop algorithms to process brain imaging data at the Rutgers University Anand Sarwate Lab.
 
  • Kevin Sun, undergraduate student in the Rutgers Aresty Center, primarily researches biomedical technology and is trying to use computers to model learning and behavior at the Rutgers University Anand Sarwate Lab.
 
  • Li Yang Xie, research assistant in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, primarily researches biomedical technology and is trying to teach computers to recognize patterns in patient data at the Rutgers University Anand Sarwate Lab.
