Trenton, NJ ― The New Jersey Business & Industry Association, representing 20,000 New Jersey businesses, hailed new government data released today indicating another round of solid monthly job gains in March, saying it showed the state’s economic recovery is sustained and accelerating.
The number of New Jersey residents reporting to have jobs reached a record high 4.37 million in March, according to the state Department of Labor & Workforce Development, citing preliminary data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Private-sector employers have added 265,000 jobs since February of 2010 at the height of the recession, the department said.
“The $2.3 billion in NJBIA-backed business tax cuts and reforms that have been enacted by the Governor and Legislature are allowing our businesses to make the investments they need for the future, and that is creating new jobs,” NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka said.

Gov. Chris Christie cited the positive jobs data today at a news conference at Union County College, where he also announced the locations of the three Talent Development Centers that will connect employers in key industries with the workforce they need for the global economy of the 21st century.
NJBIA has been working to facilitate the partnerships between business leaders and academic institutions and coordinate industry-specific workforce development programs. The three Talent Development Centers announced by the Governor will provide workers with the skills needed for tomorrow’s jobs in advanced manufacturing, healthcare and transportation, distribution and logistics.
“New Jersey already has a highly skilled workforce and the establishment of these Talent Development Centers will ensure our workforce maintains its competitive edge,” Siekerka said. “The job training provided at these centers is important in supporting the workforce needs of New Jersey’s high-growth industries in a 21st century global economy,” Siekerka said.
The Talent Development Networks will be located at Union County College (transportation, distribution and logistics), Camden County College (advanced manufacturing) and Rutgers University-New Brunswick (healthcare).
“The advanced manufacturing, healthcare and transportation sectors will benefit greatly from this workforce initiative, and we look forward to sharing these resources with our members,” said Tyler Seville, NJBIA’s associate director of Education and Workforce Development.
