Newark, NJ - NJIT’s Third Annual Faculty Research Symposium, showcasing the work of new faculty members, ongoing interdisciplinary collaborations, and the university’s many research centers, will take place Monday, Feb. 23 in Ballrooms A and B of the Campus Center. The work of more than 30 faculty members will be presented through both brief talks in the ballrooms and poster exhibits displayed throughout the Gallery.
“The symposium is an extraordinary event that gives the NJIT community the chance to see the groundbreaking research that takes place on our campus,” said Atam Dhawan, interim vice provost for research. “But it is more than that. By bringing together the emerging ideas and strengths of our new faculty with those of our existing research centers, we expect to generate important dialogues that will result in productive new collaborations. The university’s strategic plan, 2020 Vision, which is designed to significantly enhance our research enterprise, has interdisciplinary research at its core.”

The keynote speaker will be Tiffani Bailey Lash, Ph.D., a program director and health scientist administrator at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) who manages the research portfolios for the biosensors, point-of-care  technologies, and mHealth programs at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). She is also the program director for the NIBIB Point-of-Care Technologies Research Network, consisting of three centers charged with developing point-of-care diagnostic technologies through collaborative efforts that merge scientific and technological capabilities with clinical need.

“Dr. Lash is one of the key players on the national stage driving the country’s health policy around the development and use of biosensors and point-of-care technologies,” said Dhawan, adding, “She is a dynamic force in the health care arena who is working closely with many agencies, including the National Institute on Aging, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the National Cancer Institute, to integrate the country’s approach toward improving personalized, preventive and precision care.”

Laboratory directors will also display posters in the Gallery showcasing the work of the university’s more than 20 research centers.

The event begins with welcoming remarks at 11 and will end with a reception at
5:30. Faculty, students, research collaborators and advisory board members are invited.  The media is also welcome to attend.
