Ringoes, NJ - A ceremony and networking event naming Dr. Allison Frazier Jackson as a national award winner for leading the Million Women Mentors©-New Jersey (MWM-NJ) took place at the National Press Club, Washington, DC as part of the 2-day event for MWM September 20-21.
The award recognizes her leadership in New Jersey, over 130 business days, to grow the initiative to register and connect girls, young women, and women to mentors to help advance them in STEM education, credentials and careers.  New Jersey’s uniqueness is immediately seen by its recruitment of a 25 person Steering Committee and advisors; production of a state video; development of the first in the nation, Project Charter for MWM-NJ Steering Committee to provide an infrastructure for work, and the recruitment from Douglass Residential College, Rutgers University of the program’s first User Experience team composed of early STEM career undergraduate students.  Undergrads start training fall 2015.

Our goal is to produce 3000 mentors to serve NJ programs by 2018.  This includes connecting to 67 existing NJ based mentoring groups in support of their needs.  MWM-NJ expanded the goals to include underrepresented groups in STEM.   “To me NJ is the Innovation State, learning from my grandfather, a member of NJ Fighting 369th in WW1, who demonstrated use of multiple languages from our diverse Jersey City neighborhoods, in order to find and sustain work – that can produce diverse & inclusive strategies that lead to business success and economic growth”.

A recent MWM-NJ example is partnering with Earth Friendly Products (ECOS), Parsippany, NJ. Our first donor, focused on innovative organic products, while helping girls engage in STEM career exploration this summer, with Picatinny Arsenal engineers.

The MWM NJ Steering Committee represents academic, government, nonprofit, business, industry and corporate partners.  Our committee leaders include: Kim Case, executive director, Research & Development Council NJ; Drs. Anand Ramaswami and Bob Brzozowski, Rowan College at Burlington County; John Henry, NJSBA; Ralph Tillinghast, Picatinny Arsenal; Mike MacEwan, NJSACC; Pastor Keith Davis, CDC and Al Dansbury, Camden City; Sally Nadler, PSE&G; Betty Boros, NJBIA; Nannette Wright, Lockheed Martin; Jay Dugan, EIRC; Ed Denton and Dave Janosz, NJTEEA; Hunterdon County Reps: Kim Metz, Todd Fay, Ed Stoloski (K-12); Jacquelyn Litt, Dean Douglas Residential College and Pam Rodriques, TCS, Genna Cargill, Cisco, Florence Johnson, NJ Symphony Orchestra, and Laura Greenstone, Licensed Professional Counselor / Board-Certified Art Therapist/ NJ Certified Disaster Response Crisis Counselor.

New Jersey’s Million Women Mentors Steering Committee is recognized for its creativity and achievements at the national MWM conference in Washington, DC, September 21, 2015.  Dr. Allison Jackson was named national state leadership award winner.
