Glassboro, NJ - According to Rowan University President Ali A. Houshmand, "It is with a heavy heart that I share news that our great friend, Henry M. Rowan, passed away yesterday evening. In 1992, our University community gained a benefactor determined not just to make a philanthropic investment but to make a difference in the lives of countless individuals, most of whom he would never meet. The result of Henry Rowan’s generosity and vision has been nothing short of transformational, not just in our institution but in the spirit and achievements of the state school that Mr. Rowan once described fondly as “a place to roll up your sleeves and get down to work.”
With Mr. Rowan as inspiration, Rowan University has become a nationally recognized model in higher education and an academic community that honors the Rowan name with our commitment to excellence and leadership.
We have lost a champion of innovation and philanthropy, but Henry Rowan’s spirit will forever encourage our vision, animate our work and prompt us to make a difference in others’ lives.
