The ceremony, hosted in the center’s IMAX dome, honored the innovators behind some of the most forward thinking patents filed in the state.
Opening the event, Council President Anthony Cicatiello said, “We are living in a time when the world is facing a set of challenges unique in human history where new technologies are disrupting businesses, economic models are adapting to a changing and global world and where things that once seemed impossible are suddenly tantalizingly within reach.
Cicatiello continued: “Just as Thomas Edison helped answer the biggest questions of his time, so are you helping to answer the biggest questions of our time.”
Recognized for their contributions in their respective fields were:
· Industrial Product: ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company — James Carey, Angela Galiano-Roth and Gary Dudley
· Biotechnology: Immunomedics — Chien-Hsing Chang, David Goldenberg, Edmund Rossi and Diane Rossi
· Defense: Lockheed Martin — Valerie Underwood, Lillian Andres and Travis Lenhart
· Medical Device: Merck — Michael Galluppi, Scott Brown and Peter Basile
· Enabling Technology: NJIT — Rajesh Dave, Daniel To and Maxx Capece
· Telecommunications: Nokia Bell Labs — Ilija Hadzic, Dennis Morgan, Zulfiquar Sayeed and Alf Neustadt
· Medical Technology: Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory — Charles Gentile, Adam Cohen and George Ascione
· Drug Delivery Technology: Rutgers University and Matinas BioPharma — Raphael Mannino and Ruying Lu
· Agriculture: Rutgers University — Joseph Goffreda and Anna Voordeckers
· Energy: Siemens — George Lo, Mohammad Abdullah Al Faruque, Hartmut Ludwig, Livio Dalloro, Barry Contrael and Paul Terricciano
Telecommunications: TE Connectivity — Massimo Manna, Ekaterina Golovchenko and Mark Eniright
Also receiving special honors were:
· President of Bell Labs and Corporate Chief Technology Officer at Nokia Marcus Weldon, who was given the science and technology medal
· Former CEO of the NJEDA Caren Franzini received the chairman’s award
· Stevens Institute of Technology President Nariman Farvardin was recognized as educator of the year
