Rider University Alumnus Arthur J. Stainman Receives Sesquicentennial Medal of Excellence

Lawrenceville, NJ — Rider University alumnus Arthur J. Stainman ’65 received a Sesquicentennial Medal of Excellence at the Scholarship Luncheon on April 27, 2017, for his generous contributions to and dedicated participation with Rider University.

The Medal of Excellence was established to recognize members of the Rider community who make extraordinary efforts to enhance the Rider experience for students, alumni and the broader community.

After graduating, Stainman rose through the ranks of the financial services industry and now serves as the senior managing director of First Manhattan Co., a leading investment management firm in New York City.

During the 52 years since his graduation, Stainman and his family have continuously made efforts to strengthen Rider’s community.
His most recent contribution was one of the largest scholarship gifts in Rider’s history; the Stainman Family Fund is a $2.5 million fund to support grants for academically talented juniors and seniors who would otherwise need to borrow money to complete their education.

Stainman views the fund as a way to express appreciation for his own educational opportunities while helping promising students who face financial challenges.

Created in 2015, the fund has already provided 10 Rider students with substantial scholarships. This donation helps Rider attract the best and brightest students, and it makes a Rider education more accessible, regardless of one’s financial status.

Prior, the Stainmans have made generous and significant contributions by donating to various facility-based projects.

These projects include the Student Recreation Center, a 52,000-square-foot facility that is home to Rider’s recreational and intramural programs, and the Stainmans made a naming gift for the Rehearsal Hall that was part of the project to expand the performing arts facilities in the Bart Luedeke Center.

“Stainman is similarly selfless with his time and talent,” said Rider University President Gregory G. Dell’Omo.

“He has served as a member of the Rider Board of Trustees since 2004, and he is chair of Rider’s Investment Committee. His leadership and expertise have contributed mightily to the University’s success.”

On top of Stainman’s involvement at Rider, he volunteers for several nonprofit organizations in the broader community as well.

He serves on the board for the Food Bank for New York City, where he is treasurer, and United Neighborhood Houses, a federation of 37 social services agencies helping 500,000 New Yorkers annually.
