Rowan Appoints Dr. Yatin Karpe as Director of Technology Commercialization for Rowan Innovations

Glassboro, NJ — Rowan University has hired Dr. Yatin Karpe as director of Technology Commercialization, Rowan Innovations, with responsibilities to facilitate the commercialization of Rowan inventions, encourage industry engagement and identify regional and federal entrepreneurial resources for academic innovators.
 
Rowan Innovations within the South Jersey Technology Park (SJTP) is the newest operational unit in the Division of University Research which promotes entrepreneurial activities and new company formation around Rowan’s research and inventions.
 
The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) reports into Rowan Innovations aligning the life cycle of technology transfer, licensing and startup companies. 
​Working with entrepreneurial researchers, faculty, staff and students in the University community, Rowan Innovations role is to provide the business services, resources and guidance that foster business incubation and start-up companies.
 
Karpe, who is based at the South Jersey Technology Park at Rowan University, in Mantua Township, most recently served as the associate director of the Office of Technology Transfer at Lehigh University.
 
Prior to that he worked as technology manager at North Carolina State University. He brings more than 15 years of research and technology transfer experience to the Rowan role.
 
The Allentown, Pennsylvania, resident earned his Ph.D. in technology management-textiles from North Carolina State University, his Master of Science in management and science from the University of Georgia and his Bachelor of Engineering in textile engineering from the University of Bombay (India).
 
Karpe serves on several committees of national and international organizations, including the Association of University Technology Managers; Licensing Executive Society; University Industry Innovation Network; and International Conference for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Regional Development.
 
He has published extensively on business and industry, innovation, technology and academic topics.
 
A research institution that has grown to $34 million in sponsored research in the past year, Rowan educates more than 17,000 students in bachelor’s through doctoral programs in Glassboro, Camden and Stratford.
 
Rowan is committed to undertaking applied research in medicine, engineering, the environment, biological sciences and a broad range of other fields—all with the goal of solving real-world problems.
 
One of just two universities in the nation with two medical schools offering M.D. and D.O. degree-granting programs, the University maintains extensive partnerships with government, business and industry operations around the world, often serving as the de facto R&D arm for them.
 
Research is conducted in/at, among other areas, the College of Science & Mathematics, Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering, Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University and South Jersey Technology Park.
 
The University is active in drug development, medical devices, diagnostics and digital health—partnering with hospitals and industry to deliver customized solutions; spin out businesses in its Technology Park; and deliver the future workforce for biopharmaceutical, healthcare, engineering and other industries.
