Mount Laurel, NJ — A Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) student recently earned distinction as the Top Female Student in a statewide mathematics competition featuring top math students from two- and four-year colleges in the region.
Anna Wilson, 18, of Shamong, tied for ninth place overall out of 77 students, making her the first RCBC student to place in the top 10 at the New Jersey Undergraduate Mathematics Competition, which also earned her a tie for the Top Female Student at the competition.
Wilson was among eight students, also including Pingping Song, Tommy O’Shaughnessy, Caitlin Proto, Jonathan Zablin, Cheyanne Kelly, Bryan Bugyi and Liam Doherty, who participated in the competition at The College of New Jersey in Ewing after months of preparation.
They were prepared by RCBC faculty members Crystal Bourne, Priti Mihalik, Bob Roach, Jonathan Weisbrod and Jianene Meola.

“The competition was a lot of fun and a great experience. RCBC sent some amazingly bright students, all of whom I was honored to participate with,” Wilson said.
Wilson plans to represent RCBC again in next year’s conference, which will be held at RCBC’s Mount Laurel Campus on April 7, 2018.
“RCBC has exceptional mathematics students who do well in this competition every year,” said Math Instructor Jonathan Weisbrod. “We’ve already started planning for next year and look forward to hosting this conference and competition on our newly upgraded campus including the newly built Student Success Center.”
Wilson and two of her teammates, Tommy O’Shaughnessy, of Hainesport, and Bryan Bugyi, of Mount Holly, placed 15th in the overall competition and second among two-year schools.
Bugyi, advised by faculty member Jonathan Weisbrod, also presented his research, “The Wumpus World: A Demonstration of Probabilistic Decision Making” in the Garden State Undergraduate Mathematics Conference poster session.
