Rutgers Makes Key Changes to Support Internal Grant Proposals

New Brunswick, NJ - Effective today, September 1, the internal submission deadline for administrative components of any grant proposal is five business days prior to the sponsor's deadline and the deadline for the proposal's scientific elements is two business days prior to the sponsor's deadline. More about the deadlines and the documents needed by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is here. These deadlines were established with input from faculty and administrators through the Excellence in Research Administration initiative, which also has clarified the financial conflict-of-interest process. ERA is intended to improve support to faculty, decrease administrative burden, and increase the efficiency of various business processes.
On August 1, the new Research Administration and Proposal Submission System (RAPSS) was extended to the submission of new grant proposals to all federal agencies that use grants.gov. For NSF submissions, faculty and staff should use RAPSS for the endorsement process, but they do not need to create a 424 form in RAPSS to submit through Grants.gov. Instead, they may submit the final proposal to NSF through FASTLANE. If you are uncertain if a particular submission should be processed through RAPSS, please contact your unit's grant specialist.

RAPSS is being built with best-in-class software. When Phase II is completed early next year, the system will provide a wide range of features to users, including an online archive, robust budget tool, user-friendly interface, integration with regulatory functions, and centralized reporting for research activities. RAPSS training is being conducted in numerous locations and additional sessions have been added to the training schedule.

Research Council Grants Awarded to 92 Faculty
The Research Council received 159 grant applications this year from faculty universitywide. After extensive review, the council awarded 92 grants that average $1,500 each. Recipients include faculty members on the New Brunswick, Newark, and Camden campuses. The full list of Research Council Grant recipients is posted here.
