The Science Enrichment Academy at Stockton (SEAS) introduces students to STEM topics through a wide variety of coursework, data collection, data analysis, problem solving and hands-on experiences in a wide variety of subjects not typically found in the high school setting.
Students will reside at Stockton University from July 17 to July 30 and work with professors and experts in the field who share their love of science. After two weeks, the students will present their findings.
The SEAS program will allow students who will be entering their senior year in the fall of 2016 to meet, network and work with other students who enjoy math and science as much as they do and who want to expand their knowledge.
The participation fee for SEAS 2016 will be $2000 for accepted students, with some scholarship opportunities available. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be high school juniors during the 2015-16 school year and should be among the top students in their school, with no less than a “B-“average in their high school coursework and with at least a “B” or higher average in science and math courses. Students who have demonstrated a very strong interest in science outside the classroom can also be strong candidates for the academy.
Students must be willing to live on campus for the duration of the program. Saturdays and Sundays make up part of the program and there will be no weekend leaves of absence. Students will not be permitted to leave the program early.
The deadline for applications and recommendations to be received is by midnight on Sunday, May 1. They may be sent via email, [email protected], or via postal mail to SEAS, care of David Furgione, Unified Science Center Room 120, Stockton University,101 Vera King Farris Drive, Galloway, N.J. 08205. Click for the application or visit the SEAS page for more information.
A panel of professors, researchers and educators will review applications, choose the nominees and invite an estimated 24 students to attend the academy. Students who are accepted will be notified by May 15. The admissions process is very competitive; in recent years, 15 percent - 25 percent of nominees have been offered admission.
