Trenton, NJ — Eric Strauss reports in NJBIZ that U.S. News & World Report revealed its 2018 rankings of the nation’s best graduate schools on Tuesday, rating 100 or more colleges and universities in a variety of programs.
Based on the rankings, New Jersey is well-represented in a number of fields, including business, law, medicine and more.
Among the nation’s best business schools, Rutgers Business School in Newark and New Brunswick tied for No. 50, tops among New Jersey colleges. Stevens Institute of Technology ranked No. 83, the only other Garden State college to earn a numerical ranking.

U.S. News divided the best medical schools into two categories: primary care and research.
Among the primary care schools, Rowan University came in tied for No. 51, while Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School-New Brunswick was in a tie for No. 88.
Among the research institutions, two Rutgers University affiliates were in a tie for No. 73 nationwide — the Rutgers RWJ school and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School-Newark.
The University of Washington ranked first in primary care, while Harvard was the No. 1 research institution.
Nursing schools were also ranked in two categories, one for master’s degrees and one for doctorates. These rankings were among the largest, in terms of number of colleges rated.
Rutgers-Newark was the highest-rated New Jersey college in both, tying for No. 20 among master’s programs and ranking No. 18 among doctoral programs.
Seton Hall tied for No. 76 in master’s programs, while Fairleigh Dickinson University tied for No. 151 and Monmouth University tied for No. 175.
Among doctoral programs, Seton Hall tied for No. 72, while Fairleigh Dickinson tied for No. 136.
Duke University was rated No. 1 for both master’s and doctoral programs.
Among engineering graduate programs, Princeton University ranked No. 17, while Rutgers-New Brunswick was tied for No. 54 and Stevens Institute’s Schaefer School of Engineering & Science tied for No. 81. New Jersey Institute of Technology tied for No. 87.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology was No. 1.
Finally, among education graduate programs, Rutgers-New Brunswick tied for No. 52, while Montclair State University is tied for No. 93.
Harvard came in at No. 1 in this category, as well.
