Camden, NJ — Tom McLaughlin reports that two Rutgers University–Camden scholars — Marie O’Toole and John Broussard — have been selected as Fulbright Scholars for the 2016-2017 Academic Year, joining the ranks of a distinguished cadre of scholars and professionals serving as leaders in their respective disciplines at host institutions throughout the world.
Marie O’Toole, senior associate dean of academic and faculty affairs and professor at the Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden, has been selected for a Fulbright Specialist grant in education at Jordan University of Science and Technology in Irbid, Jordan.
She will travel to Jordan University in March 2017 to work with faculty interested in exploring a joint doctoral program with Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden.
The grant recognizes O’Toole’s storied history of developing global nurse education programs between the U.S. and European partners, such as Semmelweis University in Hungary, and Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Finland.

In 2007, O’Toole served as the principal investigator for a grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education.
The program, jointly administered and funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the European Commission’s Directorate General for Education and Culture, was designed to add European and American dimensions to international curriculum development, as well as related student exchange opportunities for undergraduate students in nursing.
A first of its kind, the undergraduate, dual-degree program in nursing addresses the growing need for international recognition of nursing education to facilitate efficient emigration of nurses.
Earlier this year, John Broussard, an associate professor of finance at the Rutgers School of Business–Camden, was awarded a prestigious Fulbright award that allows him to perform research at the Hanken School of Economics in Finland during the fall 2016 semester.
Broussard is now working closely with Finnish business scholars and graduate students on research that evaluates multiple classes of stock in Europe. The Hanken School of Economics has campuses in Vaasa and Helsinki in Finland.
Broussard is an expert scholar in investments, portfolio management, and risk management, and his research has also delved into corporate finance, international stock markets, high frequency trading, and other financial market matters.
He says much research has already been done on multiple classes of stock in U.S. markets, but there is still a lot to learn about European stock.
For the past 70 years, the Fulbright Scholar Program has been one of the most widely recognized and prestigious international exchange programs in the world. Sponsored by the U.S. government, it is designed to increase mutual understanding between the United States and other countries.
